I'm an artist, a Christian, and a human. Do they have a pill for that?

I never want to break a bone in my hands.

Whoops, Cultural Faux Pas

I got this drawing from Dave Walker's Cartoon Church blog. Please pay him a visit and tell him he's awesome.

So I've deleted my Lent posts. After Ash Wednesday's services last night, I was reminded that lenten sacrifices are personal things that are best kept private so as not to call attention to one's self or to appear boastful.

My Bad.

My explanation of this tradition to a friend was received in a way I did not expect. On top of that, my posts were attracting comments that indicated to me even more misunderstanding, so I'll just keep this one between me and God.

For the record, observing Lent doesn't absolve anyone of anything, nor are there any goals among its partakers to "not sin for 40 days." There is NO SUCH THING as a "good little Christian."

Whether you're a naysayer or just don't understand what we're on about, I and many other Christians welcome your legitimate questions about our widely varying customs and practices. Yeah, we're oddballs and I hope I can offer some clarity as I myself continue growing and learning.

Oh, sweets! I hope you know now that I was TOTALLY KIDDING about 'not sinning for 40 days'. That's where the whole "even Christians don't understand what Lent really means" comes in. I was being all tongue & cheek & was not dissing my Dear Murphmeister.

Here in NYC, LOTS of folks walked around proudly displaying their ashen foreheads. But when I asked them if they knew what that represented - they had NO IDEA. Just another example of the sad state of affairs of our Beloved Church.

I will also forewarn you that when you are honest (which is GOOD) on the blog - people take it as personal criticism when they harbor a deep sense of guilt or misunderstand what you are trying to communicate. You have seen me battle this out quite ANGRILY & PUBLICLY over the past 8 months. It's a hard road, but it's the High Road - and I know that you will navigate it well.. with the type of John Finesse only YOU can offer. Which is what I love so much about you.

And I LOVE this blog & your videos - you're doing great here. You've entered the Bloggie World with a bang. Fascinating, my dear. Absolutely FASCINATING.

Thanks for letting us all have the honor of peaking into your brilliant noggin!
